Havana International Book Fair addresses The Beatles

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (ACN) Scholars attending the 33rd Havana International Book Fair who are also lovers of The Beatles’ everlasting music agree that there is always a before and an after the four boys from Liverpool in universal music.

Boris Faingola, an importer and distributor of books in Uruguay, director of Aletea S.A., and former president of the Uruguayan Book Chamber and the Ibero-American Publishers Group, spoke about the myth or reality of The Beatles together with the Cuban music buffs Guille Vilar and Raul Aguiar.

“Everything that happens to us today, our habits and experiences, have their origin in the prodigious decade of the 1960s”, Mr. Faingola said. (…) A thousand stories can be told: they have 213 crucial songs and 13 special albums which somehow marked the natural change that the world had to go through in order to move on after World War II”.

On his end, Guille Vilar, a journalist, music critic, scriptwriter and cultural promoter who has a passion for The Beatles, remarked that he was privileged to have grown up along John, George, Paul and Ringo, whom he called a reality, not a myth, and whose music he has enjoyed ever since he was 15.

Likewise, the writer, essayist, professor and researcher Raul Aguiar pointed out that The Beatles are also linked to Cuban literature, as they appear in science fiction stories, poetry and narrative as well as in hundreds of published titles, a fact that confirms the band’s relevance in the cultural world.
