International Book Fair guests salute Nelson Mandela's work

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 18 (ACN) The importance of Nelson Mandela in today’s world was highlighted by the representatives of South Africa, guest of honor in the International Book Fair currently under way in Havana.

“Mandela’s work is more than enough reason for us to delve into all aspects of human nature”, according to South African author Eugene Damons, who described the late leader as an influential figure whose actions have an impact on present-day writing. “When we remember him, many things come to mind, especially the word ‘forgiveness’, since South Africa would not be the country it is today if Mandela had not forgiven all those who did harm to him”.

On her end, the writer Unathi Nkayi underscored the importance of reconciliation and peace as one of the things that the former South African president taught us for being essential to national unity.

To say South Africa is to say Mandela, who stands as an example of how much a continent oftentimes marginalized has to offer the world.
