Havana, Jan 27 (ACN) The influence of Afro-Cuban music in Cuban culture will be high on the agenda of the 40th Jazz Plaza International Festival underway in this city till February 2nd.
Musicologist Cary Diez told the Cuban News Agency that the festival will approach different music styles and stressed the participation of the Sacred Funk Quartet, led by Nigerian composer Lean Babalola, who will launch concert called Tale of Orisas in different venues of the festival.
The Nigerian ensemble will be joined by drummer Sikiru Adepoju from that same country and by bass player Jorge Reyes from Cuba.
The musicians who will participate at the Tale of Orisas concert have been granted Grammy awards by their excellent performance of folk music.
The festival also promotes the exchange with personalities who live abroad and feel great admiration for local music and jazz, said the executive.
The International Jazz Plaza Festival will be hosted by venues in Havana, central Villa Clara and eastern Santiago de Cuba provinces. Renowned musicians and jazz bands are participating in the event.
