SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Jan 27 (ACN) As part of the 40th edition of the Jazz Plaza 2025 International Festival in the central province of Villa Clara, the book Federico Smith, Cosmopolitismo y Vanguardia ( Cosmopolitanism and Avant-Garde) was launched at the Parque de las Arcadas, which these days is called the Esquina del Jazz (Jazz Corner), was presented today.
Isabel Diaz de la Torre, who presented the book, told the Cuban News Agency that it is an interesting and entertaining biography, thanks to the great personality that Federico Smith was, and invited the public to enjoy it.
This book provides an approach to the aesthetic thought of Smith, composer, professor, critic, promoter of ideas and U.S. musician of wide trajectory, who lived his last years in Cuba between 1962 and 1977, she said.
After an exhaustive search to gather information about Smith's career and creative spectrum, the author unveils the musician's professional work in Mexico and Cuba, she added.
Diaz de la Torre indicated that it gathers a valuable inventory of his creative work, practically unknown and an exponent of the Cuban musical avant-garde of the 60s and 70s of the last century.
Federico Smith is considered in Cuba as one of the exponents of the Cuban musical avant-garde and a "sui generis" pedagogue, recognized for his skills as a mathematician, his vast knowledge and his unique practical abilities.
