Havana, Jan 14 (ACN) Over 356 visiting musicians will participate at the 40th International Jazz Plaza Festival to be hosted by Havana, Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba cities from January 26th to February 2nd.
Cuban Music Institute president Indira Fajardo told the Cuban News Agency that most vising jazz players come from Italy, Portugal, Argentina, Colombia and the United States.
Some 22 women musicians will take part at the festival with interesting projects, such as the one called “Music is Woman” empowering the presence of women on music stages, particularly jazz players.
This year the festival will also be hosted by central Villa Clara province and eastern Santiago de Cuba; the jazz meet will also visit Cuban music schools with key-note lectures and workshops.
Interesting moments will include children company performances, the special participation of Cuban maestro Bobby Carcasses, and the homage to be paid to outstanding Cuban pianist Frank Fernandez on his 80th birthday.
The festival will also reserve space for debates on movies and launch of music records and will grant a Jazz Plaza 40 stamp to over 100 personalities and institutions with major contributions to Cuban culture.
Since it was launched in 1980, the Jazz Plaza Festival has consolidated as a major event in Cuban performing arts.
