HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 14 (ACN) The eminent musician and composer Enrique Bonne, National Music Prize (2016), died today in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, at the age of 98.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Cuban Institute of Music highlighted the prolific work of Enrique Bonne as a musical composer, which includes more than 150 works, performed by artists such as Elena Burke, Caridad Hierrezuelo, Miguel Angel Piña and Rosita Fornes, and orchestras such as the Estrellas de la Charanga and the Original de Manzanillo.
He also worked in close collaboration with the Santiago musician Pacho Alonso, who popularized several of his works and made internationally known the rhythm Pilon, also of his authorship.
In 1961, he founded the group Enrique Bonne y sus tambores, with which he had a successful professional career and represented Cuba in several national and international festivals and events.
Member of merit of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association and member of its National Council, and illustrious son of the city of Santiago de Cuba, the relevant artist received decorations such as the Distinction for National Culture, the Alejo Carpentier and Jesus Menendez medals and the National Music and Television Awards (2018).
