Cuban Film Festival will release new Netflix TV series

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) The first two episodes of the TV series Cien años de soledad (One hundred years of solitude), produced by the Netflix platform and based on the 1967 novel of the same name by Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014), will be released in Havana on December 6, in the context of the 45th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

According to Festival director Tania Delgado Fernandez, who made the announcement at a press conference, referred to the said premiere―agreed with Netflix―as a tribute to García Márquez, winner of the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature and one of the architects of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation, an institution he presided over until his death.

Filmed entirely in Colombia, with Colombian actors, the eight-episode series takes place in the fictional town of Macondo, where the Buendía family lives.

Cien años de soledad, a representative example of the so-called magical realism, is considered one of García Márquez's and Latin American literature's greatest works.
