SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) The collective exhibition Por un mundo mejor (For a better world) by 12 painters of the Bayate Group, will be displayed until December 30 at the Indigo Art Gallery, a center in Philadelphia, U.S.A, specialized in popular art.
Bayate leader Luis Joaquin Rodriguez said that the sample, already exhibited 22 years ago, has been retaken with a new vision where the creators tell a story from their hometown in the municipality of Mella, deemed the cradle of Cuban naïve art.
“The project includes 27 works produced by Bayate, Ruta Cultural, and Salzmann Photo Center, of the Fpoto Wes gallery in Philadelphia, the city of fraternal love”, remarked the artist also known as El Estudiante (The Student). “This time the program features an exhibition of gigantographies with images of the Cutumba
Folkloric Ballet and Idalberto Bandera, outstanding figures of the local and national culture, as well as the presentation of my project Lucha (Wrestling) with photographer and anthropologist Laurence Salzmann, made up of documentaries about local young wrestlers and their trainers.
Established in December 1994, the Bayate Group has represented Cuba in various national and international events, where critics and renowned professionals of the sector have recognized the quality of the works of its members, faithful exponents of Cuban naïve art.
