HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (ACN) A Cuban representation participated at the 3rd High-Level Conference of the Belt and Road on Intellectual Property, which was held in Beijing, People's Republic of China, under the principles of openness, cooperation, development and mutual benefit.
Professionals from both countries ratified at the meeting the MoU between the corresponding Intellectual Property (IP) offices, informed the Communication Department of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the China National IP Administration (CNIPA), said in this regard that the agreement provides greater benefits for innovators and companies of the two nations, based on friendship, bilateral relations, the earliest possible start of data exchange and strengthening of capacities for training and education in this area.
He commented that the Cuban Intellectual Property Office (OCPI by its Spanish acronym) is an important partner in Latin America and expressed satisfaction for its positive approach and firm approval of the Belt and Road.
His colleague, Maria de los Angeles Sanchez Torres, director of the OCPI, pointed out that relations with China are a strategic axis for economic development, exchange in science and technology and foreign investment.
She emphasized that later this month, the 13th Cuba-China Joint Commission for bilateral cooperation in the specialty will meet in Havana, with the particularity of initiating online training.
The 3rd High Level Conference of the Belt and Road on Intellectual Property was attended by more than 450 people from its 55 partner countries, international and regional organizations.
The attendees discussed topics related to regional cooperation and consensus building, its contribution to digital transformation, its role in promoting green and sustainable development, increasing the value of products and empowering innovation and creativity through financial facilities.
There were a total of 38 presentations and Cuba was the only Latin American and Caribbean country that had the opportunity to give a speech, in which Sanchez Torres exposed two cases of success in the creation of value and source of financing of IP rights in the Cuban biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry sector.
