Cuba to host 30th edition of Fiesta de la Cubania Festival

BAYAMO, Cuba, Sep 16 (ACN) Conceived to preserve the nation's most autochthonous identities and values, the Fiesta de la Cubania (Cuban Culture Festival) will celebrate its 30th edition this year, scheduled to take place in this city October 17-20.

As is traditional, artists and intellectuals from different regions of the country and foreign guests will gather in the capital of the eastern province of Granma, where a broad program of activities will celebrate the Day of Cuban Culture and, especially, the 30th anniversary of the event that was born in 1994, at the initiative of the then minister of the sector, Armando Hart Davalos.

Dedicated to the 206th anniversary of the birth of Pedro (Perucho) Figueredo Cisneros, author of the Cuban National Anthem, and the 120th anniversary of the birth of the illustrious writer Alejo Carpentier, the celebration will include the 32nd Crisol de la Nacionalidad Cubana (Crucible of Cuban Nationality) theoretical event and the 2nd Colloquium on Latin American and Decolonizing Thought.

The work in commissions will deal with topics such as identity studies and national formation; decolonizing processes in Cuba and Latin America; and Cuban, Caribbean and Latin American cultural thought.

There will also be debates on socio-cultural practices in community contexts; and artistic and literary expressions that constitute essences in the aforementioned geographic areas.

An important date for the arts and socio-historical and cultural debates, the Fiesta de la Cubania celebrates every year the liberation of the city of Bayamo by pro-independence troops under the command of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, and the popular premiere of the lyrics of the war march La Bayamesa, which became the National Anthem; both events took place on October 20, 1868.
