Santiago de Cuba, Aug 28 (ACN) Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the UNESCO Routes of the Enslaved Peoples program, the city of Santiago de Cuba hosts the 16th International Festival Timbalaye 2024, designed to revere the Temple Houses—meeting places for religious, social and cultural activities—and the Cabildos or Councils of the Nation, social organizations stemmed from the slave trade in Cuba.
Irene Cruz, research specialist of the Municipal Division of Culture, explained that the Cabildos have preserved their traditions, customs and festivities over the years and praised the importance of this tribute paid by the Festival in order to promote the preservation of these institutions.
As an opportunity to protect Cuban culture from colonization and preserve the respect for the legacy of our ancestors, Timbalaye 2024 features panels, prize-giving ceremonies, and performances by music bands and dance troupes throughout the city.
