HOLGUIN, Cuba, Aug 12 (ACN) The 18th edition of the International Film Festival of Gibara (FIC Gibara) was closed with the awarding of the Lucia de Honor prize, the highest award granted by the Gibara International Film Festival (FIC Gibara), to director and screenwriter Manuel Perez Paredes and cinematographer Livio Delgado, in that city in the Cuban northern province of Holguin.
At the awards gala, held on Saturday at the Jiba Cinema in the Villa Blanca de los Cangrejos, the jury in the fiction category decided to award the prize to the feature film "The Wild Woman", for telling the story of a woman in search of a new meaning, through the relationship between a mother and her son, directed by Alán González, from Cuba.
The award for short fiction film went to "Lapso", by director Carolina Cavalcanti, from Brazil, for providing a fresh vision of characters who are not very visible in the audiovisual spectrum thanks to the empathetic acting of two young people who manage to break the barrier of prejudice.
The award in the best documentary category went to "Un hogar sin armario" (A home without a closet), a Spanish-Argentine production directed by Eduardo Cubillo, for its sincere and in-depth approach to an unknown topic about a generation and for the detailed care taken in the cinematographic language.
In animation, "Amapolas en mi ventana (Poppies on my window)", by Colombian director Grettel Melissa Quintana, received the award for its appropriate use of the stop motion technique to reflect in metaphorical language the process of mourning through the eyes of a girl who takes refuge in art.
Also, in the Films in Progress category, the documentary feature film in development "Boxeo Habana Social Club", from Italy, Spain and Cuba, directed by Cristiano Regina, received the award, which will receive support for translation, delivery, promotion at international festivals and distribution by the Italian company Magale.
Sergio Benvenuto, director of the festival, announced that from the 19th edition on, the event will be called Gibara International Poor Film Festival, in accordance with the foundational bases set forth by Humberto Solas in his Manifesto and that it will be held in April.
The closing ceremony was attended by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province; Manuel Hernandez Aguilera, governor of Holguin, among other political and government authorities.
