International Book Fair to kick off in Cuban central provinces of the country

 

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Mar 13 (ACN) The 32nd International Book and Literature Fair kicks off today in Villa Clara and Cienfuegos and will last until March 17.

Omar Rubio Lopez, director of the Provincial Center of Book and Literature in the Villa Clara, told reporters that 14 programs will be held, with the main activities in the different cultural locations of that entity in the territory, including colloquiums, theoretical events, book presentations, as well as the presentation of awards to prominent figures of culture.

He added that renowned writers and literary promoters of the country will participate, as well as several national and regional publishers, including Casa de las Americas, Capiro Publishing House, Cauce Publishing House and Cubaliteraria.

With the aim of promoting reading as one of the main activities for the formation of individual and collective consciousness, more than 100,000 copies of different titles will be made available to the public, he added.

Miguel Angel Castiñeira Garcia, member of the organizing committee, commented that, as part of the extension program, the fair will reach communities and schools, as well as prisons, to bring literature closer to everyone.

At the same time, in the other central province, national and foreign exhibitors inaugurated the 32nd International Book Fair.

The event was attended by Armando Carranza Valladares, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Governor Alexandre Corona Quintero; Alicia Martinez Lecuona, director of Culture in Cienfuegos, and Yoannia Perez Aguirre, director of the Provincial Center of Book and Literature, among other authorities.

The children's pavilion Tesoro de papel(Paper Treasure), the theoretical event Parampampin, the youth space Dios y los locos(God and the Crazy), the Professional and Literary Program, the Information Technology Area, Entre libros y punto cubano Leer la historia(Between Books and Cuban Dot Reading History) and the Publishing Workshop make up the Fair's schedule in the central-southern territory.

Among the authors invited to this edition are Maria Elena Llana, winner of the 2024 National Literature Award; poet and storyteller Carlos Esquivel, winner of the 2023 Nicolas Guillen Award; and essayist Rafael de Aguila Borges, winner of the 2024 Alejo Carpentier Award.
