HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 21 (ACN) In a keynote lecture given at the 32nd Havana International Book Fair, Fernando Rojas Gutiérrez, advisor to the Minister of Culture, issued an appeal to protect the collective memory and the role of institutions in preserving culture.
Based on a compilation of [journalist and writer] Desiderio Navarro’s texts about Cuba’s cultural policy under the Revolution, Rojas Gutiérrez shared views of Cuban intellectuals on events related to the so-called Quinquenio gris [Grey years] (1971-1976) and its effects on the arts, ranging from architecture to social thought, poetry and narrative.
The official described the said texts as a fruitful work stemmed from a complex process that provides encouraging critical analyses and called for similar reflections in order to avoid a repetition of that era.
Under the theme "Reading is building identity", Cuba’s largest literary festival will be held in Havana until February 25.
