Culture in Cuban eastern province awarded important prizes in 2023



HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jan 26 (ACN) The Ibero-American Julio Cortazar Short Story Award to writer Emerio Medina and the Extraordinary Prize at the Radio Philharmonic Lyric Contest in Lima, Peru, to soprano Senia Lopez, stand out among the achievements of the culture sector in Holguin during 2023.

Lizette Martinez Luzardo, deputy minister of culture, in the meeting held on Thursday, expressed that the focus of the purposes in the current year in the sector are the work projections outlined by the government, so it is necessary to make a deep analysis of the changes that must be carried out in order to comply with each of them.

She also highlighted the awarding of the creative scholarships El reino de este mundo(The Kingdom of this World) and Caballo de Coral(Coral Horse), granted by the Saiz Hermanos Association (AHS) to Gerardo Perdomo, and to Miguel Montero, by the Onelio Jorge Cardoso Literary Training Center, respectively.
Yuricel Moreno Zaldivar, director of the Provincial Center for Plastic Arts, stressed the need to explore public spaces and economic actors to place the work of our creators and its commercialization, according to Cuban cultural policy.

She also stressed that more than 200 activities were carried out from that institution, including exhibitions, conferences, workshops, contests, salons and the promotion of the work of the artist Cosme Proenza.

Also last year, authors Rolando Bellido and Reynaldo Zaldivar Osorio won the Adelaida del Marmol 2023 National Contest, within the framework of the Ibero-American Festival, and the Spring Poetry Award, with the notebooks "El miedo de Virgilio" and "Perforaciones", respectively.

More than 600 students were admitted to artistic education and young people from the municipality of Moa joined the school of Art Instructors, in the specialties of Theater and Visual Arts, and work was carried out on the digitalization of more than 16 thousand images of the documentary heritage.

During the event, the Distinction for National Culture was awarded to teachers and pedagogues in recognition of their contributions to the formation of several generations of artists in the country, and post mortem to the founder of the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts, José Ramiro Ricardo, and recognition was also given to outstanding groups.

Encouraging the development and promotion of artistic creation, preserving and promoting the nation's heritage as a form of expression of identity and strengthening the international projection of Cuban culture are some of the objectives that, during the past year, were a priority for this sector of the territory.
