Cuban ministry of culture awards important awards to nine outstanding artists

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, at the proposal of the Ministry of Culture, has awarded the Alejo Carpentier Medal to nine renowned Cuban intellectuals and artists.

Alpidio Alonso, head of culture, proposed the awarding of this distinction on the occasion of the 44th Festival of New Latin American Cinema, in recognition of their merits, their work in favor of the enrichment of national culture, their extraordinary support to the development of artistic culture in the theatrical, cinematographic and audiovisual fields and their prestige in the creation and promotion of the Cuban cultural identity.

The awardees are:

The Minister of Culture is in charge of all matters related to the awarding of this medal to the recipients, according to the Presidential Decree, signed on January 4 and published today in the Official Gazette No. 2 Extraordinary Special.
