HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 29 (ACN) The Criticism and Research Section of the Association of Stage Artists of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (Uneac by its Spanish acronym) has chosen the best theatrical and dance shows of 2023 for the Villanueva Critics' Awards.
According to the Uneac Communication Department, the productions "Clowncierto", by the group Teatro Tuyo from Tunas, and "Carnaval"(Carnival), by Teatro de las Estaciones from Matanzas, deserved the award in the Family Theater category.
In the adult theater category, the Villanueva awards went to "Padre nuestro"(Our Father), by La Franja Teatral; "El collar" (The Necklace), by Comunidad Creativa Nave Oficio de Isla; "Aventuras del soldado desconocido" (Adventures of the Unknown Soldier), by Retablos y La Salamandra; and "Kilometro Cero" (Zero Kilometer), by Liliana Lam.
"Room Macbeth", performed by Pompeyo Audivert, from Argentina, won the award in the category of foreign show.
The National Ballet of Cuba, Cultural Heritage of the Nation, was awarded one of the special recognitions for its season celebrating the company's 75th anniversary.
Trotamundos' show(Trotamundos) "Frijoles colorados,"(brown beans), directed by and starring an artist of the stature of Veronica Lynn, who has won national theater and television awards, was also honored.
In addition, the staging of "Murder at Haversham Mansion", by the young playwright Ledier Alonso along with the Humor Promotion Center and the Creative Community Nave Oficio de Isla, received special recognition.
The Villanueva Critics' Awards will be presented on January 22, 2024 at Uneac's Villena Hall, on the date of Cuban Theater Day.
