HAVANA, Cuba, May 21 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez lamented the death on Sunday morning, at the age of 87, of the outstanding writer and National Literature Award winner Antón Arrufat.
On a Twitter post in which he described the storyteller, poet and playwright as an essential figure of Cuban culture, the president offered his condolences to Arrufat’s family, colleagues and readers.
Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso, writer and essayist Abel Prieto, and National Library director Omar Valiño, among other Cuban leaders and intellectuals, also conveyed their deepest sympathies through personal messages.
The outstanding writer was born on August 14, 1935 in the city of Santiago de Cuba.
