University channels internationalization into vital sectors

 

CAMAGÜEY, Cuba, Mar 1 (ACN) The Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz University of Camagüey (UC), the first higher education center founded in post-revolution Cuba, prioritizes the integration of internationalization processes and management of science and innovation for the benefit of strategic sectors of the country.

High on the list of UC’s achievements in 2022 are 35 research and other educational scholarships abroad that contribute to the preparation of candidate doctors in these fields and 13 projects in the areas of tourism, pharmaceutical production, biotechnological and biomedical science, energy and food production, construction and telecommunications, according to Yailé Caballero Mota, UC’s director of International Relations.

The university is also working together with Belgium on the Food Sovereignty and Nutrition Education Program and other projects related to ICT, biotechnology and economic development, whereas its tourism studies are making progress since the establishment of strong links with Spain, specifically in the Balearic Islands and the University of Cadiz.

UC’s engagement in sustainable local and economic development is favored by projects funded by the European Union, the French Development Agency and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. Likewise, the university implements the Program of Informatization of Society and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the national leader of the Project for the Creation of the International Institute of AI Research currently under way in the University of International Studies of Hebei, China.

In 2022, UC signed 180 agreements with institutions and academies from 26 countries and joined 19 international academic networks and five associations.
