HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 1 (ACN) The 43rd International Festival of New Latin American Cinema starts today in Havana with the screening of Santiago Mitre’s feature film Argentina 1985.
Themed Cine a lo grande [Big-time cinema], the Festival includes an official selection of 185 movies in the categories of short fiction, debut film, documentary and animation, as well as unpublished scripts and posters, among others. There will be 103 films in competition from Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Portugal, France and Norway.
Among the theoretical events will be keynote lectures by Zaira Zarza, professor at the University of Montreal, on film distribution and the benefits and challenges of a new exhibition chronology; Open Doors director Zsuzsi Bánkuti, about the experiences of this program of the Locarno Film Festival and the opportunities for Latin American and Caribbean cinema; and Erlend Skutlaber and Wilson Calderón, , counselor and cultural assistant, respectively, of the Norwegian Embassy in Cuba, about the work of the Sorfond and the Norwegian Fund for Cuban cinema.
Established on December 3, 1979, the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema has been a platform to show the world, through the big screen, the values of Cuban, Latin American and Caribbean culture.
