HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 8 (ACN) Filmmaker Santiago Rony Feliú presented Lo primero que hay que salvar (The First Thing to Save), a 52-minute-long documentary film about the presence of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro in the Revolution’s cultural activity and his role in milestones such as the literacy campaign and the founding of Casa de las Américas and the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists.
Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture, said that Fidel realized from day one the essential role that culture plays in the construction of an emancipatory social project and described the film as an act of justice to the historic leader and a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the New Song Movement, which many call the soundtrack of the Revolution.
The screening took place at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, where René González Barrios, director of the institution, referred to Lo primero… as part of a day of homage to the Commander in Chief, who died six years ago, and to the first anniversary of the Center that bears his name.
