Cuba remembers José Martí on the anniversary of his birth



HAVANA, Cuba, January 28 (ACN) On the 173rdanniversary of José Martí's birth, Cuba celebrated his life and work, whose values ​​remain fully relevant today..

In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel referred to the March of the Torches, an event traditionally held on the eve of January 28, as was first done by the Centennial Generation in 1953, and organized this year with an additional motivation: saluting the centennial of the birth of the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2016) carrying torches that poured "warmth and light on the battle to achieve full justice."

Likewise, Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, paid tribute to the Apostle in a poststating that Martí's ideals and fervent patriotism, as well his struggle for independence, unity, anti-imperialism, and Latin Americanism, stand as an example and guide for the people of Cuba.

In his own post, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressed José Martí’s early warning about the threats posed by the United States against Cuba and the rest of Our America.

"His ideals are the foundation of the Cuban Revolution and its profound solidarity-basedhumanism and internationalism in favor of the unity and well-being of the peoples of the Global South," he wrote.

José JuliánMartí Pérez (Havana, January 28, 1853 – Dos Ríos, May 19, 1895) was a poet, essayist, and journalist who founded the Cuban Revolutionary Party and organized the so-called Necessary War to achieve freedom from Spanish colonialism.

His biographers agree that he was a man of high principles, internationalist devotion to Latin America, and impeccable personal conduct, both public and private.
