SANTA CLARA, Cuba, January 8 (ACN) With 802 medical offices, 37 polyclinics, 61 Basic Work Groups, and more than 3,000 professionals, the province of Villa Clara reaffirms Fidel Castro's legacy in consolidating family medicine and its accomplishments in primary health care in the region.
A brainchild of the historical leader of the Revolution, the Family Doctor and Nurse program is a symbol of the commitment to the well-being of the people for more than four decades and a reflect of his vision of promoting a community health model that remains essential for millions of Cubans today.
Dr. Leidy Saray Rodríguez Hernández, local director of Health, said that the province boasts consistently good indicators in primary care with a 95%-plus medical and nursing coverage and fully staffed Basic Work Groups capable of providing a stable service.
On his end, Vice Governor Noel Cecilio Chinea Pérez praised the government's role in supporting the clinical infrastructure and ensuring the program's sustainability and remarked that an efficient resource management and the permanent support for healthcare professionals are paramount to guarantee the continuity of the model.
Susely Morfa González, First Secretary of the Party in the province, held that the program devised by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro is the backbone of the Cuban healthcare system and pointed out that the work of the health professionals at community level is a genuine expression of humanism and dedication, despite the limitations imposed by the intensification of the U.S. blockade and its impact on public health.
