HAVANA, Cuba, November 6 (ACN) The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID by its Spanish acronym) delivered a series of resources to Cuban authorities in Havana, destined for the population of the eastern region affected by Hurricane Melissa.
The donation consists of 2,184 family kitchen sets, 1,600 sets of tools approved by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and 253 pairs of steel-toed work boots.
Eduardo Sanchez Moreno, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Havana, explained that this is a small contribution from his country, providing the most urgently needed supplies for the island during the recovery phase.
He also highlighted Cuba's efforts to prevent any loss of life as a result of the storm. He elaborated that his country's assistance is not limited to sending these resources, but that people from various parts of Spain have mobilized to support Cuba.
For his part, William Diaz Menendez, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Trade (MINCEX), stated that at a time marked by difficult circumstances caused by Hurricane Melissa, Cuba gratefully receives the generosity of the Spanish people.
Diaz Menendez expressed that this gesture of solidarity will impact the lives of those facing the challenge of rebuilding their homes and communities.
He also acknowledged the support provided to the country by solidarity organizations and movements in the European nation, demonstrating that unity and principles can overcome any obstacle.
Since November 3, three shipments have been received from Spain totaling 35 tons of supplies, valued at 145,000 euros.
This gesture from the Spanish government, facilitated by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), joins the solidarity actions of other organizations and countries that have supported Cuba in the recovery of the eastern provinces after the devastating passage of Hurricane Melissa on October 29.
Juan Ovejero Dohr, coordinator of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, also participated in the handover.
