Díaz-Canel: "No One Will Be Left to Their Fate"



HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 4 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel said that the stage of recovering from the damages of Hurricane Melissa is progressing with the conviction that no one will be left to their fate.

On his official X account, he specified that the preliminary toll of this weather event on housing is 45,282 affected homes.
He reported that in the most recent session of the Defense Council this Monday, the recovery work was reviewed, and as part of this, resources have already begun to be delivered for damaged homes.

Díaz-Canel stated that donations are being received and distributed from nations, organizations, institutions, MSMEs, and from the solidarity movement of the entire Cuban people.

Progress is being made in restoring electricity and water supply, although much work remains. More than 120,000 Cubans remain protected, highlighted the head of state.

According to information from the Council, in the statistical report as of noon this Monday, the province of Las Tunas had recovered 94.5% of its electrical service; Holguín, 40.5%; Granma, 50.4%; Guantánamo, 58.7%; and in Santiago de Cuba, many circuits are already prepared for when the Felton thermoelectric plant is operational.

Regarding water service, Las Tunas province already has services restored to their pre-Melissa state; Holguín is at 54.7% restoration; Granma at 30%; Guantánamo at 81.2%; and Santiago de Cuba at 84.3%.
