CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Nov 4 (ACN) The Cienfuegos Cereals Basic Business Unit (UEB) is maintaining a stable and daily supply of wheat flour to guarantee bread for the population of two of the eastern provinces affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Digsan Martínez Vergara, director of the entity, told the Cuban News Agency that every day they send two trucks with 40 tons to the territory of Granma, while another two, with 25 tons, depart for Las Tunas.
To guarantee these levels and their traditional commitments, he explained that they work in shifts to cover 24 hours a day.
He assured that this industry is producing steadily, both in its milling area and in bagging, loading, and unloading.
The support from the Cienfuegos Cereals collective to provinces affected by hurricanes is already a tradition, an example of which occurred in 2012 when Hurricane Sandy hit the eastern territories.
This factory, belonging to the Cuban Milling Company, has a port facility with its unloading cranes and conveyors, a modernized system with an investment conceived in several stages.
Considered the largest mill in the country, Cienfuegos Cereals is responsible for producing the flour destined for the basic food basket in central Cuba territories and for the bread supply chain, among others.
In addition to Granma and Las Tunas, Hurricane Melissa caused multiple damages in the provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, and Holguín during its devastating passage on October 29.
