HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 20 (ACN) The 1rst Granma Rebelde Festival concluded on Sunday at the capital's Línea and 18th Street Station, in an event that paid tribute to the 60th anniversary of the Granma and Juventud Rebelde newspapers, founded by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
Yuniel Labacena Romero, director of Juventud Rebelde, read the event's report and highlighted the journalistic legacy of Fidel Castro, to whom the space was dedicated, remembering him as a master of the issue.
He emphasized that the true magnitude of the festival is not only measured in participation figures, but in the quality of popular interaction, combining political, cultural, and fair activities, all free and in an accessible space, which made it easier for the public to be the true protagonists and not just spectators.
The presence of more than 15 artistic groups, the collective creation of murals, and the diverse range of participating media, with spaces for exhibitions and public interaction, confirmed that the Granma Rebelde Festival achieved its objective: to create a confluence where the Cuban Revolution's project of socialist construction found expression and resonance, in broad interaction between the press and the people, the director stated.
During the event, audiovisual material was shown capturing the historic moment when Fidel Castro announced the creation of the newspaper Juventud Rebelde, during the commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the integration of the youth movement and the inauguration of the first national sports games.
At the closing ceremony, it was emphasized that the Cuban youth newspaper has always been based on a journalism committed to the truth, while its collective has functioned as a constant workshop for thought, making the medium a multiplier of revolutionary essences.
Cuban youth newspaper was also awarded recognition for adapting, through communicative evolution, to the current needs of the new generations.
Granma Rebelde International Festival was held for several days with a program that included debates on journalism, exhibitions, and cultural presentations, as a tribute to the 60th anniversary of both media outlets.
