1st Granma-Rebelde Festival unveiled Mural of Dignity

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 20 (ACN) The US blockade on Cuba and the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro's birth are some of the themes of the Mural of Dignity unveiled at the 1st Granma-Rebelde Festival, which concluded on Sunday at the Línea and 18th Street station in Havana.

Graphic artists from the humorous newspaper Palante and the Juventud Rebelde supplement Dedete joined forces to create four panels that also address the struggle for Palestinian liberation and peace.

Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of the Ideological Department, attended the unveiling; a Chinese delegation was also present at the festival.

Osvaldo Gutirrrez Gomez (Osval), a cartoonist from Palante, told the Cuban News Agency that it was an opportunity to reflect the resistance of the people in a space designed to confront media manipulation.

This collective creation brought together young and experienced artists, united as part of the festival's extensive program, which opened on October 17.

Ismael Lema Aguila, director of Palante, emphasized the importance of the event featuring a graphic exhibition from that publication and other cartoonists, to demonstrate the denunciation of the genocide in Gaza. Attendees had the opportunity to witness the entire creative process of the mural in person, undoubtedly a highlight of Granma-Rebelde.

During three days of exchange and reflection, the festival brought together 17 media outlets and publishing projects, and more than 140 international participants.
