HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 11 (ACN) The United Nations Development Organization (UNIDO) in Cuba has outlined different strategies with foreign experts to promote innovation and renewable energy management practices in the country.
Such is the case of the project "Initiative for the decarbonization of strategic sectors in Cuba based on circular solutions and innovative climate models", described by the expert José Antonio la Cal Herrera at the XII Ibero-American University Symposium on the Environment (SUMA 2025).
UNIDO project associate Ivette Tortosa pointed out that the Global Environment Facility granted two million dollars for the project―to be carried out jointly with the Technological University of Havana "José Antonio Echeverría"―with a view to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the promotion of and support to innovative decarbonization enterprises, materials and business models in Cuban households, tourism facilities and industries.
Speaking at the International Energy Conference, La Cal Herrera, founder of the Spanish company Bioliza, specialized in the development of biomass-based noble gas generation plants, talked about the prospects and opportunities of the circular economy in Cuba and referred to the important role of bioenergy as a tool, in terms of energy transition, to improve security and energy supply in the island.
