Díaz-Canel Meets with Youth in Presidio Modelo

HAVANA, Cuba, May 15 (ACN) Following today’s 70th-anniversary commemoration of Fidel Castro and the Moncada prisoners' release on the Isle of Youth, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez held a dialogue with 70 young islanders about the revolutionary legacy and the importance of upholding historical principles.

According to the Cuban Presidency’s X (Twitter) account, the president emphasized the unity and stoicism that defined that historic moment, stating:

"Here, unity, independence, and values were defended with great dignity and firm principles. That is the legacy we can draw from this event."

Díaz-Canel also stressed that Cuba’s history is intertwined with world history, underscoring the need to reaffirm values amid external attempts to distort historical processes.

"At a time when imperialism seeks to rewrite world history, these encounters are crucial," he said.

The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba reaffirmed the continuity of such intergenerational exchanges, vowing:

"We will keep meeting to multiply history."

The gathering reinforced the youth’s commitment to studying and preserving Cuba’s historical memory, strengthening the bond between new generations and the values that define the Cuban Revolution.
