Havana, April 3 (ACN) Russian Federation Vice-president Dimitri Chernishenko paid tribute on Thursday to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in eastern Santiago de Cuba city.
It’s been very symbolic for us to have kicked off our official visit to Cuba from this cemetery as indicated by President Vladimir Putin, said Chernishenko, who arrived in Santiago on Wednesday evening.
Wreaths were also laid at the tomb of National Hero Jose Marti, and at the tombs of the Father of the Cuban Homeland Carlos Manuel de Cespedez and heroine Mariana Grajales.
The Russian top official said that it is a honor to pay homage to the Cuban heroes who gave their lives for the sovereign and happiness of new generations.
“Russia will always support Cuba and will help Cuba in its legitimate defense of its sovereignty,” said the Russian Vice-president.
The distinguished visitor will co-preside over the 22nd Session of the Russia-Cuba Inter-government Commission for Bilateral Economic-Commercial, and Scientific-Technical cooperation.
