Havana, April 3 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated former Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016) for having been ratified to the post of President of the New Development Bank (NDB) of the BRICS bloc.

On his X account, the head of state wished Rosseff success in such an important post and he stressed the role of the alliance to promote cooperation among emerging and developing economies.

On March 19 this year, the New Development Bank board of governors unanimously reelected Dilma Rousseff as president of that institution till the year 2030.

The bank continues to advance its founding vision through the mobilization of resources to implement infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging markets and developing nations, while creating capacities for technology and innovation, fostering economic growth and promoting social inclusion Rousseff said after her reelection.

The New Development Bank was set up by the members of the BRICS, an association and political-economic forum, initially made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The BRICS later took on other countries like Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
