Cuba recalls historic meeting between Fidel and Raul at Cinco Palmas

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 18 (ACN) Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban PM, recalled today the historic meeting between the leaders of the Revolution Fidel Castro and Raul Castro, at Cinco Palmas.

On X, the Cuban head of government assured that this moment marked the continuity of the struggle for the country's national liberation.

With only seven rifles, the Commander-in-Chief said: "Now we have won the war", and so it was, Marrero Cruz said.

On the occasion of the date, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, declared that 67 years after the symbolic event, the conviction to resist despite the adversities and the hostility of the United States is still intact.

On December 18, 1956, days after the landing of the Granma yacht, the setback of Alegria de Pio, and several days of enemy persecution, Fidel and Raul met in a small cane field of the farm of the peasant Mongo Perez, in Purial de Vicana.

When they met, Fidel asked Raul how many rifles he had, and when Raul answered that he had five, the leader of the Revolution exclaimed: "And two that I have, seven! Now we have won the war!

Days later, they would be joined by Juan Almeida's group integrated by Ernesto (Che) Guevara, Ramiro Valdes, Reynaldo Benitez and Rafael Chao, and in the following dates other expeditionaries would join them, who would be the ones who on December 25, 1956 would climb the Sierra Maestra, to begin the last National Liberation deed.
