MATANZAS, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) The Pittsburgh-Matanzas Sister Cities Association and the Provincial Government of People's Power in this Cuban western territory ratified today their solidarity ties, with the signing of a protocol to expand their bilateral collaboration in areas such as health and education.
Deno De Ciantis, president of the U.S. association, and Mario Sabines Lorenzo, provincial governor of Matanzas, signed the document aimed also at promoting exchanges in science, politics, sports, culture, trade, agriculture, environment and disaster reduction.
Both parties emphasized their willingness to work together to fight against the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation, as well as in favor of eliminating its inclusion in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
De Ciantis presented a donation on behalf of the Global Links organization, valued at more than 40,000 dollars, consisting of medical supplies for hospitals, and assured that they will continue with their work to change the policy of the U.S. power towards the Caribbean nation.
For his part, Sabines Lorenzo thanked the group for its support in difficult times for the nation, and emphasized that in spite of the lack of resources, the political will made it possible to carry out works for the 330th anniversary of this city, such as new facilities to provide services.
The meeting was chaired by the Hero of the Republic of Cuba Fernando Gonzalez Llort, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym), and was attended by Elian Gonzalez Brotons, deputy to the National Assembly of the People's Power.
