HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 14 (ACN) The application of unilateral coercive measures against developing countries undermines their national efforts to make progress in climate action, Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla denounced today.
Speaking about the annual United Nations Climate Summit (COP27), held in Egypt, the foreign minister called on Twitter for an end to these measures, which are incompatible with international law.
Cuba's approach to the event is to support the efforts of developing countries to ensure the financial mechanisms required to deal with the losses and damages caused by climate change.
According to information from the ministry of science, technology and environment, the Cuban representation has been working within the group of Small Island Developing States (AOSIS), to outline the proposal for financial arrangements on loss and damage and present it in the negotiation of the General Decision.
Recently, Rodriguez Parrilla pointed out the non-compliance of developed countries with their contributions to the Climate Change Adaptation Fund, which is intended to help developing countries meet the costs of adjusting to this global problem.
Also in the context of COP27, Cuban PM Manuel Marrero said that it is vital that the most developed countries meet their goal of providing 100 billion dollars a year to support the efforts of the South, scheduled for 2020 and which has not materialized today.
