HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 5 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel saluted today on Twitter the dedication and sacrifice of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) in its 63rd anniversary.
In his message, the head of state noted that the PNR sprang from the Rebel Army, grew up fighting in Bay of Pigs, and currently protects civil peace. He also remarked that this heroic body erased forever the sad pre-revolutionary memories of the police on the island.
Also on the occasion of the date, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz recognized the outstanding work of Cuban police officers during all these years to preserve people’s tranquility, whereas Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca evoked on the same social network the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, describing the men and women of the PNR as “modest, humble, honest comrades with full political awareness of their functions and jobs and totally identified with the people".
Officially established on January 5, 1959, the PNR had its immediate origins in the Rebel Police Force, which operated in the mountains of eastern Cuba during the last stage of the liberation war.
During the Bay of Pigs mercenary attack in April 1961, the PNR Battalion played an outstanding role in the defeat of the invading forces, organized and supported by the United States government.
The main mission of this body is to preserve public order, civil peace and road safety.
