HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 11 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez remarked today that the Island mourned no deceases of pregnant women in 2020.
“Unfortunately, however,” he said, “35 have died so far this year due to the strong fresh outbreaks of the disease and the onset of the Delta strain. It’s a worrying figure, and our experts and scientists are working on new measures to protect them more.”
During his meeting Tuesday with Cuban specialists involved in the fight against COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2, he received an update on recent studies proving that pregnancies at 30-plus years of age, a gestational age extending beyond 26 weeks, obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes are risk factors.
Among the actions implemented to protect Cuban pregnant women are the advancement of the vaccination process, increased prevention, and the admission in maternity homes of all pregnant women in their 26th week who present risk factors.
Furthermore, no suspected or low-risk positive patient will classify for home treatment if they live with pregnant or postpartum women, and those of them who have been in contact with positive cases will be administered Nasalferon.
