HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 11 (ACN) The Institute of Meteorology reports in its tropical cyclone warning No. 2 that during this early morning tropical storm Fred was moving south of Puerto Rico and bringing heavy rains formed near its center of circulation. Fred has gained in organization, although its maximum sustained winds remain at 65 km/h and its minimum central pressure is still 1009 hP.
At 6:00 a.m., Fred was 160 km east-southeast of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, about 655 km of Punta de Maisí, Cuba’s easternmost tip, and moving at a speed of 26 km/h.
In the next 12 to 24 hours it will maintain its course and speed of translation. It is expected to make landfall today on the Dominican Republic, where it is likely to weaken a little due to the land’s influence and the unfavorable winds in the high levels of the atmosphere. It should leave the island early this evening and keep moving toward Great Inagua, in the Bahamas.
Fred will bring produce an increase in clouds in the Eastern Cuba will start seeing overcast skies and increasing rainfall on Thursday.
The next tropical cyclone warning for this system will be issued at noon today.
