
Camaguey, Feb 3rd (ACN) The Ignacio Agramonte International Airport in the eastern Cuban province of Camaguey temporarily closed all operations starting Wednesday in tune with the most recent COVID 19 control and sanitary measures adopted by the Cuban government to contain a wave of the disease affecting the island.
Airport director Leudes Escobar confirmed the measure which joins other actions to get into force over the weekend particularly focusing on more restrict isolation of incoming travelers in state institutions, according to the webpage of the local Cadena Agramonte Radio station.
A news release by the Public Health Ministry explains about a further reduction of flights from the US, Mexico, Panama, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Colombia as of February 6th.
The information explains that flights from Nicaragua, Guyana, Trinidad-Tobago and Surinam are still interrupted while those from Haiti have been suspended.
Cuba had already reduced incoming international flights in January following a spike of the new COVID 19 flare-up that is hitting the island nation.
In tune with the new measures, the Camaguey international airport will keep handling non-commercial cargo for individuals. Only baggage and packages for the municipality of Camaguey will be dispatched under this modality.
