HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 19 (ACN) Fernando Gonzalez Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), praised the ties of solidarity and fraternity that unite Cuba and China since September 28, 1960, when the two countries established official diplomatic relations.
Gonzalez Llort recalled the creation in May 1960 of the Cuba-China Friendship Association, which has grown ever since as an organization whose main goal is to strengthen friendship and develop cultural and scientific exchanges.
He pointed out that ICAP, which in 2025 will celebrate the 65th anniversary of its creation by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, maintains close links with various Chinese institutions of friendship and peace, as well as with Chinese students graduated in Cuba and Cuban nationals living in the People’s Republic.
“The main challenge facing these Cuban and Chinese organizations is to make the new generations confident in the future and show them that the world can be different if they devise joint strategies to cope with the current threats hanging over peace and international security”, he stressed during the Global Dialogue "China in Spring Time: Sharing Opportunities with the World", held on Wednesday at the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski in Havana, where he ratified the commitment to keep promoting mutual respect and harmonious integration, with regard for the protection of the environment and the principles of international cooperation, the struggle for peace, sovereignty, and national self-determination.
In the presence of Hua Xin, Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Mr. Fernández thanked the People’s Republic’s solidarity with the island against the criminal U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years.
