HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 17 (ACN) Cuban star sprinter Omara Durand advanced to the semifinals of the 200 meters (m), category T12 (profoundly visually impaired), at the World Parathletics Championships in Paris, where she has already won two gold medals.
Durand, universal record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 m, and winner of eight gold medals in Paralympic Games, along with her guide Yuniol Kindelan, dominated heat 2 of the double hectometer elimination with a time of 24.36 seconds (s), so she advanced without problems to the next stage today.
The queen of sprinting will go in search of her third gold medal in this event, to increase to 14 the number of titles she has won in these venues.
On Saturday, in the Charléty stadium, the outstanding Cuban athlete won the 100m final with a time of 11.62 seconds, which is her best time this season.
Previously, on Thursday, she won the crown in the 400 m by stopping the clocks in 52.82 s, her most outstanding record in 2023.
Also on Sunday, representing the island, Guillermo Varona finished sixth in the javelin throw (F46), with 60.96 m, the best for him this year, in an event won by Ajeet Singh, from India, with a competition record of 65.41 m, according to the official website of the event.
In other important Cuban results in the World Parathletics Championships, Robiel Yankiel Sol Cervantes won the first gold medal for the Caribbean nation, with a record for the event of 7.63 m.
In addition, on Saturday, Ulicer Aguilera won the bronze medal in the javelin throw, category F13, with 59.79m, and with these performances, Omara, Robiel and Ulicer guaranteed their tickets to the Paralympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024.
