Cuba and Argentina strengthen ties in the agricultural sector

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 9 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez ratified his willingness to keep promoting joint projects with Argentina and boost the ongoing ones, with special emphasis in agro-industries, during a meeting with the Secretary of Development Planning and Federal Competitiveness of Argentina, Jorge Neme, who is paying a visit to Cuba at the head of a delegation of businessmen, technologists, government officials and officials from the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) to discuss details about a grain production project to be launched in December in central Cuba with their country’s support.

"I have no doubt that by putting together the information about Cuban soil, water and irrigation systems and the experiences of Cuban and Argentine technicians will lead to high productivity,” Mr. Neme remarked.

The Cuban head of state highlighted the importance of this visit to strengthen trade relations and thanked the Argentinian official for his contribution to bilateral ties in various fields of the economy, including Cuban priorities such as renewable energy sources and foreign investment.

He also conveyed his gratitude to President Alberto Fernández for his government's support of Cuba’s fight against the U.S. blockade and Argentina’s dignified and encouraging statement on behalf of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) at the Summit of the Americas.

On his end, Mr. Neme said that Argentina's position at the Summit of the Americas and his country’s vote at the United Nations against the blockade could not be different regarding the said 60 plus year-old U.S. Cuba policy, which he described as an incomprehensible anachronism.
