HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 8 (ACN) With its candidacy to the UN Human Rights Council, Cuba seeks to continue contributing significantly to the strengthening of a cooperative and constructive dialogue approach, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, Cuban alternate permanent representative to the United Nations, said on Twitter.
The diplomat shared an image with data of Cuba's work in this field, which provides details of the achievements made in the country on gender equality and empowerment of women, the right to equality and fight against racial discrimination, promotion and protection of children and adolescents' rights, and the right to health and medical cooperation, among others.
Cuba keeps its vocation of cooperation for a better world and that's why it is proposing its candidacy to the Human Rights Council, which it has already been a member in previous periods, despite the pressure of the United States government to prevent it.
This year in February, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, foreign affairs minister, announced in Geneva the country's candidacy to be a member of this organization for the 2021-2023 period.
Created in 2006 to replace the Commission on Human Rights, the Council has members who serve three-year terms and are not eligible for immediate re-election after two consecutive terms.
