HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 16 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel highlighted today on social media the progress made by Cuba in the use of renewable energy sources.
The first bioelectric power plant in Cuba synchronizes with the National Electroenergetic System and strengthens its stability. We continue advancing in the use of renewable energy sources, Diaz Canel tweeted.
The fact is especially remarkable because for the first time the country is generating electricity from marabou biomass, which so far is the only source of power for the boiler in operation, while the Ciro Redondo plant in Ciego de Avila (central Cuba) is not yet ready to provide bagasse as fuel material.
The plant will work from June to November with marabou biomass and from December to May with the use of the bagasse from the plant, which will save the country some 100,000 oil barrels a year.
