HAVANA, Cuba, May 18 (acn) Vyacheslav M. Lebedev, President of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, expressed on Tuesday in this capital his interest in holding exchanges with Cuban colleagues at the People's Supreme Court (TSP).
Although there is already a protocol attached to the cooperation agreement between the two institutions, signed in Havana in February 2012, we will have meetings on the development of our ties, said Lebedev in an exclusive interview with ACN.
He commented that he hopes to meet with Ruben Remigio Ferro, president of the TSP, to assess aspects of mutual cooperation between the two organizations on experiences and results of the application of justice in general.
Accompanied by Mikhail Kamynin, ambassador of his country in Cuba; and Oscar Manuel Silvera, Vice-president of the TSP, Lebedev paid tribute on Tuesday to National Hero Jose Martí, while placing a wreath by the monument at Revolution Square that bears the name of the Cuban Apostle.
On his second visit to Havana, he heads a Russian delegation to the Eighth International Meeting Justice and Law, which began on Wednesday at Havana's Convention Center and where Cuba will present its progress on the matter.
Discussions will take place until May 20 and delegates from 27 countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia, as well as high representatives of the jurisdictional organs and of courts and supreme courts of a large group of nations have already confirmed their attendance.
One of them is Elias Carranza (Argentina), director of the UN Latin American Institute for Crime Prevention and Treatment of Offenders, who will speak at the meeting on possibilities to reduce homicide rates in Latin America.
