US Elementary School Children Meet Cuban Peers

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (acn) A group of 26 students between 5 and 13 years old from Maryland´s International School traveled to Cuba and visited local elementary schools to meet their Cuban peers just after President Obama visited the island in March.

The visit, reported by The Washington Post lasted a week and included parents, teachers and some other relatives, who accompanied the children in activities such as a baseball game, and visit to a school in the province of Matanzas.

Kenyatta Holman, 13, said he was excited to have met with Cuban children of his own age, while Kedar Hudson, 11, said that his studies about Cuba came more real after his visit and added that he is interested in going deeper into Cuban history.

Jackson Adams, a 13-year-old seventh grader said he wants other US school children to travel to Cuba as well.

The visit has been the latest significant approachment between the US and the Cuban people following Obama´s visit to Havana. Interesting enough was the age of the visitors and their hosts on the island. /lcg
