Costa Rican Presidents Sends Message to Stranded Cubans

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 10 (acn) Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis sent the over 5 thousand Cubans stranded in his country hoping to reach the United States a message saying that efforts to have other countries of the region to accept them in their route have been fruitless.

Solis made a call to stop the continues arrival in Costa Rica by more immigrants who want to reach US soil through Central America, which would further make the situation in his country more complicated.

The president asked for calm and said that any desperate action that may lead to violence or public disorder would only make it more difficult. He said they have called on all governments, from Ecuador to Panama to help control the flow of immigrants, PL news agency reported.

Over one thousand Cubans are calculated to be in Panama with the intention to keep their way on the Central American corridor encouraged by the US dry-feet, wet-feet policy which, along the Cuban Adjustment Act, is a fast track to residence in the US for Cubans who manage to reach US soil, no matter the way they use.

Cuban authorities have ratified their commitment to legal, orderly and safe migration and continue to guarantee the citizens´ right to travel and emigrate and also return to the country in tune with the Cuban migration law.
