Over 1200 Jamaicans Benefited by Cuban Eye-Treatment Program

Over 1200 Jamaicans Benefited by Cuban Eye-Treatment ProgramHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 5 (ACN) More than 1200 Jamaican citizens were submitted to eye surgeries under a Cuban medical program implemented in that Caribbean island nation since 2012.

According to the Jamaican Information Service (JIS), the program provided some 16 consultations to diagnose and prevent common eye conditions, said program coordinator Gregory Thomas, cited by PL news agency.

The Cuba-Jamaica cooperation accord set up an eye-treatment center in the capital Kingston, which provides treatment to citizens who previously had to travel to Cuba for medical assistance.

The Cuban program is aimed at reducing preventable blindness and providing free-of-charge eye surgery to Jamaican citizens, Thomas said.
