HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 5 (ACN) The president of the Ukrainian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Vitali Kaliuzhni thanked Cuba for its 22-year permanent and free medical treatment of children victims of the Chernobyl nuclear accident.
Upon receiving Cuban ambassador Ernesto Senti at the legislative chamber, the Ukrainian deputy recalled that the medical program assisted 24 thousand children from his country in Cuba.
Kalizhni said that the two nations are closely linked by historic friendly relations and he went on to stress ongoing bilateral cooperation links between the two parliaments.
The Cuban ambassador expressed his country's interest in further enhancing economic and commercial cooperation with Ukraine, an issue shared by the two parties, PL news agency reported from Kiev.
Along with traditional cooperation areas, Senti insisted in opening new avenues in sectors, such as the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, transportation, agriculture, health and tourism.
The meeting was attended by the senior advisor to the secretariat of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Yoroslav Yudin, and Kaliuzhkin's assistance Bogdan Andriushenko.
The Cuban ambassador was accompanied by consul Margarita Valle and political counselor Emilio Pevida.
