HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 25 (acn) Ecuador´s President Rafael Correa said that during his mandate the number of medical consultations increased from 16 million to 36 million thanks to his government support and the collaboration of Cuba.
President Correa made his statement during the inauguration of an out-patient services at the Abel Ponton hospital in Guayaquil.
Cuba began to offer Ecuador medical cooperation in 2012 with 75 workers and at present the number of medical specialists there has increased to 816 under 11 bilateral accords.
The Cuban doctors have given 85 thousand consultations since 2014 and 200 of them, specialized in community and family medicine, are currently working in remote Ecuadorian areas where they assist over 922 thousand citizens.
